Frequently Asked Questions | The Pit Class

1. What is The Pit Class?

The Pit Class is a hands-on car care and safety training program. We teach teens, new drivers, and everyday drivers the real-world skills traditional driver’s ed leaves out — like roadside safety, basic maintenance, and confidence behind the wheel.

2. Who can take these classes?

Our classes are open to teens (ages 15+) and adults, depending on the class. Youth classes are for students only - parents and guardians may drop off and return at pickup but may not attend the class. 

3. Are permission slips required for youth classes?

Yes. All youth participants under 18 must have a parent/guardian-signed permission slip with liability waiver before attending class. The waiver confirms that parents understand participation is at their own risk and that The Pit Class and its staff, venue, volunteers/helpers are not responsible for any injuries or accidents that may occur during training.

4. Where are classes held?

We currently host classes in Winston-Salem, NC and Atlanta, GA. Exact class locations are provided in your confirmation email after booking.

5. How do I book a class?

Click Book a Class in the menu or homepage, choose your session, select a date, and complete checkout online. You’ll receive a confirmation email right away.

6. What should I bring to class?

  • A notebook or pad for notes
  • Your booking confirmation email
  • A signed liability waiver (and permission slip if under 18)
  • An open mind, positive attitude, and readiness to learn!

7. Can I bring my own a car to class?

For most classes, we provide the training vehicles and equipment. However, students in the Full Car Maintenance Course may bring their own car to practice on.

8. Can I reschedule or cancel?

Yes. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please contact us at hello@thepitclass.com at least 48 hours in advance.

9. How long are the classes?

  • Youth Car Care: 2 hours
  • Roadside Safety: 2 hours
  • Basic Car Care: 2 hours
  • Full Car Maintenance Course: 4 weeks, 3 hours per week

Please note: Class times are approximate. Sessions may run longer than the posted time depending on class size, weather, or other factors. 

10. What if I have no experience at all?

That’s exactly why we’re here! Our classes are beginner-friendly and taught step by step. No prior knowledge is needed.

11. Will this count for community service or school programs?

Yes, youth participants can request documentation for community service hours if needed.

12. Do you offer refunds?

No. All sales are final and non-refundable. 

If you cannot attend, you may: 

  • Reschedule your class with at least 24 hours' notice, OR
  • Transfer your seat to another person with the instructor's permission, provided you notify us at least 48 hours in advance.

13. What should I wear to class?

Safety first. For everyone's protection, no open-toe shoes, slides, sandals, flip-flops, Crocs, or any footwear where part of the foot is exposed are allowed.

All participants must wear closed-toe shoes. If you arrive without proper footwear, you will be required to reschedule for another class - no exceptions. This policy applies to all classes and all participants.

14. What if I arrive late to class?

Because our classes are hands-on and safety-first program, all students must attend the full class from the beginning. If you arrive late, you will be required to reschedule for another class. No exceptions. 

This policy ensures that all participants receive the full safety briefing and do not disrupt the flow of training.
